The Second Half Centre, located in the NHS St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing on Exmoor Street W10, opened it’s doors to the over 50s community on October 29th 2012. It is open every Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:00pm The mission is to get our ageing population together doing things they enjoy in a dedicated space: bridging the digital divide, learning new skills to get back to work, rediscovering the pleasures of old hobbies and finding new ones, exercising, and feeling involved through volunteering, mentoring and teaching. We view isolation as a disability and will be targeting people who are isolated from all socio-economic groups and all races and religions in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the surrounding boroughs. In our beautiful 3400 square foot state-of-the-art, multi-purpose centre we hold over 60 hours of activities and classes each week: Exercise from Zumba, Pilates, Yoga and Stretch and Tone; Art from Acrylic painting to Pastels; International Cooking Classes from Italian, Greek, Persian and Vegetarian. IT skills from basic Emailing to Excel will be taught in our dedicated IT room. We also offer Crafts, Nutrition, Singing and dancing, Adult Parenting and many other classes. Our opening hours are 9:30am to 5pm five days a week. We have, in The Second Half Centre, a Cafe where members can pop in and have a place to make new friends, have a cup of tea or coffee and some cake. All our classes are taught by accredited teachers in their chosen fields.
Since The Second Half Foundation gifted The Second Half Centre to Open Age on April 1st 2014, Open Age has instituted a pricing structure for all members of The Second Half Centre of £1 for one hour and £2 for 2 hour classes; Adult Community Learning classes will be £3. It is Open Age’s hope that those members who are in a position to pay the previous Second Half Centre class fees of £5 and £6 will continue to do so; however there is absolutely no obligation.
